An introduction to life at BISS

We recognise that starting a new school can be a daunting process, for both students and their parents. We believe in making new families feel welcome and the community here at BISS will support you in any way we can.

All of our pupils were new to BISS at one time! The children remember how daunting these first days can be, and so go out of their way to make new students feel welcome.

The school has a very active community, and as well as events run by the PTA, children are given the opportunity to participate in a wide range of after school clubs and activities such as Cubs, music lessons and drama.

Our children enjoy working together as a team and love the friendly rivalry of competing with one another.

We have a House system that we use for various competitions throughout the year, such as hockey, football, the ‘Brains of Borgen’ quiz and of course, swimming galas and sports days. Trophies for the winning Houses are awarded at the end of the year at our Prize Giving Concert.   Each child is assigned to a House when they enter the school. Family members are always in the same House.

The names of the four Houses have been recently renamed by the children and are represented by gemstones:

Diamonds – Yellow,  Emeralds – Green,  Rubies – Red, Sapphires - Blue
